about

POEM
Here is the sun, the great orange ball of Africa, coming up again from the East.
Once again, as they did yesterday, the little children await your brightest orange, running to the nearby mountains to watch you. It will make them happy and lively all through the day after the darkest hours of the night.
Oh, see the best friend of mama Africa, that makes her glow, that shines on her beauty, attracting the attention of every man on the surface of the earth to it. You make her agile with good health, you bring her smiles with new friends, and you bring wealth to her pockets.
Your passage through the sky is an arc so enormous, you keep Papa on the farm all day and make Mama feel jealous of you as you keep him busy tilling the ground.
All hail the big morning orange ball that comes visiting each day, bringing along many beautiful
butterflies of different colours. People, young and old, arise in anticipation of the wonders you shall perform as you wake up the flowers, making them stretch forth with the beautiful bloom of their colourful petals, as we hail you from along River Ọ̀ṣun to the big River Benue.
Who dares stay by my side but you? You follow
me no matter how fast I run, which route I take
and which direction I go. No one is as certain as you are, for each day, I see you and you care more than anyone else.
Papa grew to know you well, as did Grandpa before him, and grandpa’s papa before him.
Upon the rock of Olúmọ, and from Mount
Kilimanjaro, I long to see you rise.
I shall be waiting for you tomorrow along the
River Nile, and again, I know for certain I shall see
you rise.
